Country-pub warmth, fireside character and food made for sharing

On Audlem Road in rural Hankelow, The White Lion is a conventional village pub and restaurant surrounded by open countryside. Inside, spacious rooms combine cosy nooks, wood panelling, exposed timber and worn floor tiles, creating a relaxed country character. Upstairs rooms open towards a verandah with countryside views, while a function room looks across the village green and pond.

Food is made at the pub and centres on modern British cooking, locally sourced hearty classics, light lunches and Sunday roasts. The current offer also includes themed food events and Friday Dough House Pizza, with the wider menus covering bar and wine choices. Recent independent accounts describe sharing-style Sunday lunch and other generous pub dishes, alongside plant-based options.

Outside, the extensive paved rear area is softened by pergolas, flower beds and greenery, with a pond nearby; inside, a real fire adds to the fireside country feel. The White Lion is community-owned and its local role includes village quizzes, charity events, history-club dinners and talks, music activity and current Friday social evenings. It is a pub with a clear connection to Hankelow life.
