The Carden Arms

At the head of Tilston village, The Carden Arms brings together the character of a Grade II listed 18th-century coaching inn, hearty farm-linked food, cask ales and the easy warmth of a traditional country pub.

A fireside village classic with a taste of the farm.

Set on Church Road in the rural village of Tilston, The Carden Arms has the presence of a long-established local landmark. Its listed 18th-century coaching-inn character is complemented by an old-fashioned pub interior of antiques, artwork, old rugs and a Georgian cellar. Published descriptions also highlight wood and tiled floors, framed pictures, a dining room and two fireplaces, giving the rooms a distinctly fireside feel.

Food is central to the pub’s identity, with current pub-classics, Sunday and children’s menus alongside a live table-booking route. The operator describes a farm-to-fork approach, with beef, lamb and pork from its mixed-livestock farm, while menus change with farm meat and local produce. Rare-breed livestock and Pasture for Life beef are part of the operator’s farm story, adding a strong sense of place to the offer.

Outside, the published facilities include a garden, offering another setting for a drink or meal when the season allows. Inside, five local cask ales and real fires reinforce the relaxed country-pub atmosphere. The Carden Arms also has a clear community thread: Monday Club brings together board games, dominoes, darts and piano playing, while a Friday Warm Space partnership offers refreshments and social contact through the winter season.
